Hello and welcome to my webpage! My name is Yilmaz Mamedy and I am a Labour Party activist who is currently Youth Officer for Bradford South CLP. I am also involved in the launch of West Yorkshire Young Labour- watch this space! I have also worked in the offices of Sports Minister Gerry Sutcliffe and Crawley MP Laura Moffatt. I am currently employed by Education Leeds to work with both students from low-income backgrounds and those from ethnic minority groups. This post takes me to several secondary schools in the area and involves both academic teaching and personal tuition. My brief is to raise academic performance among these two groups and encourage students to go on to Further and Higher Education. I believe that education is the key to unlocking potential. Potential is something that every student has, no matter from what social or ethnic background they come. We should be proud of what our party has achieved in education over the last 11 years, but there is a long way to go. That is why I am a member of the Labour Party, because high-quality education and healthcare should not be a privilege of the rich.
If we want to invest in the future of our country, we must invest in the future of our children.
When I am not working, I pursue several interests and hobbies, including political activism, reading about history and politics and playing cricket. I am an avid follower of the England cricket team who predicts that the Queen will one day be lowering a sword on the shoulders of Sir Monty Panesar! I also enjoy travelling, Latin dancing and learning and speaking languages. Writing is also a major passion of mine, though my time for it is now limited. I have also been a vegetarian for 14 years.
I’ve been out and about meeting voters and listening to their concerns and I’ll be using this page to keep you up-to-date. Meanwhile, if you have any comments or questions, I’ll be only too happy to respond to you.
